Compare cling film supplier quotes by their landed cost per usable roll, then test whether the result survives a change in freight or reject rate. A lower unit price may lose its advantage when cartons take more space or when the arrival inspection yields fewer usable rolls.

This guide adds a sensitivity check to a landed-cost worksheet. It does not provide current freight rates, tariff rates or customs classifications.

Normalize the two products first

Use the same material specification, width, verified length, thickness tolerance, core, cutter format and acceptable performance. Record rolls per carton, carton dimensions, gross weight and palletization. Do not compare a lighter or shorter roll as though it were the same product.

Then define the cost scope: goods, export packing, origin charges, freight, insurance, destination charges, duty, inland transport and inspection where applicable. Avoid counting the same charge both inside a supplier quote and again in your worksheet.

Normalize actual YIYUAN roll formats

Use these entries from the commercial cling film specification page as the starting comparison:

Listed roll format Listed gauge Listed case pack Quotation check
300 mm × 100 m 8–10 μm 24 rolls/carton Confirm the material and complete carton configuration
300 mm × 300 m 8–12 μm 12–24 rolls/carton Choose one confirmed count before allocating freight
450 mm × 300 m 8–12 μm 6–12 rolls/carton Do not equate its carton volume with the 300 mm format

The film product catalog describes custom dimensions and packing; it supplies no fixed freight quote. Obtain the final external carton dimensions, gross weight and selected count. For the 300 mm × 300 m listing, 10,000 rolls require 834 cartons at 12 per carton or 417 at 24 per carton, rounded up, if full cartons are required. Those counts illustrate the confirmed-packing choice; they do not establish the same carton size or a freight saving.

Separate cost, cash timing and recoverable taxes

Duty and tax treatment depend on destination, classification, origin and current rules. Obtain a dated calculation from your customs broker for the actual product. Treat recoverable import tax separately from nonrecoverable cost; it can still affect cash requirements. Keep foreign-exchange assumptions and the quote validity date visible.

A trade term does not eliminate the need to identify charge responsibilities and delivery milestones. If scope is unclear, return the quote for clarification before ranking suppliers.

Run a base case and a changed-freight case

Hypothetical input Supplier A Supplier B
Ordered rolls 10,000 10,000
Goods value USD 40,000 USD 42,000
Baseline freight allocation USD 4,000 USD 2,000
Other nonrecoverable costs USD 3,000 USD 3,000
Assumed usable yield 99% 99%
Base cost per usable roll USD 47,000 / 9,900 = 4.75 USD 47,000 / 9,900 = 4.75
Cost with freight allocation +50% USD 49,000 / 9,900 = 4.95 USD 48,000 / 9,900 = 4.85

These are fictional comparison inputs, not YIYUAN prices or transport estimates. The two quotes tie in the base case, but B performs better in this higher-freight scenario. The freight difference must have a documented reason, such as different confirmed packing volume; do not assume it solely from unit price.

Test usable yield separately

Cost per usable roll = total nonrecoverable landed cost ÷ usable rolls. With a USD 47,000 total, a hypothetical 99% yield produces 9,900 usable rolls and USD 4.75 per roll. A 97% yield produces 9,700 usable rolls and USD 4.85 per roll, rounded to two decimal places.

Use your inspection and claims data to choose credible yield scenarios. Keep inspection cost, defect handling and supplier credits explicit, and avoid charging the same loss twice. A projected credit is not received cash.

Write the buying decision and its limits

Save the winning quote, the specification match, packing evidence, base case and sensitivity case. Name the input that could reverse the decision and set a re-quote trigger. For a first supplier order, unresolved quality evidence can matter more than a small modeled saving.

Prepare the next supplier discussion

Use the landed-cost worksheet to collect costs, then apply this sensitivity check. Send the selected width, length, gauge, case pack and destination to YIYUAN, and request carton dimensions and gross weight for the freight comparison.
