Before committing to a new cling film distribution market, run a pilot that tests the channel, roll format and reorder economics. Define which customers will use the film, how they will dispense it and what evidence the local buyer requires. A small measured launch is more useful than an unsupported regional growth forecast.

This guide is for importers or distributors entering a new city, country or sales channel. It does not identify a market as underserved or promise a price premium.

Choose one channel and its buying task

Separate household retail, restaurant supply, supermarket overwrap and rewinder demand. They may require different roll widths, lengths, cores, cutters, outside diameters and case packs. Interview the target buyers and inspect the equipment or wrapping task before selecting the pilot SKU.

Record the current product format, purchase frequency, actual consumption, reason to consider an alternative and constraints that would block switching. Treat an expression of interest separately from a trial request and a paid repeat order.

Build a pilot brief that can fail clearly

Pilot question Evidence to collect Decision it supports
Does the format fit the task? Dispenser dimensions, approved sample and operator feedback Keep, alter or remove the SKU
Can the product be sold as intended? Importer, labeling and product-document requirements checked locally Approve the proposed channel and claims
Will customers reorder? Trial allocation, use dates, paid repeat orders and return reasons Size the next purchase from actual demand
Can you replenish economically? Packing, quoted logistics, lead time and arrival condition Choose stocking and reorder quantities
Can the channel support the margin? Net sale proceeds and full attributable cost Revise price, terms or channel

Choose a listed YIYUAN format for the channel trial

The commercial range lists 300 mm × 100 m, 8–10 μm, 24 rolls/carton, as well as 300 mm × 300 m and 450 mm × 300 m options with different packing ranges. Select the roll using target customers’ dispensing equipment and consumption task, not a regional stereotype.

The product catalog’s customization section describes film dimensions, color or neutral boxes and brand printing. Keep the first pilot’s width, core, cutter and carton count explicit; a custom logo should not mask an untested format. For a PVC sample discussion, review the full PVC submitted-sample report and confirm how its 350 mm × 0.01 mm identity relates to the proposed pilot SKU and destination requirements.

Set a quantity from the pilot design

Hypothetical example: ten restaurants agree to evaluate six rolls each. Customer trials need 60 rolls. Add 12 retained and investigation rolls, producing a 72-roll evaluation requirement. This does not mean the supplier will accept a 72-roll MOQ.

Resolve the gap between evaluation quantity and MOQ before ordering. Options may include stock formats, distributor-held samples or a larger launch justified by confirmed demand. Do not buy a full customized batch solely to obtain a lower quoted unit price.

Check local readiness before shipment

Confirm the importer of record, required product documents, labeling language, commercial scope and customs classification with the responsible local parties. Requirements depend on the destination and product; do not copy the rules of a neighboring country.

Keep film food-contact claims within the reviewed use conditions. A claim accepted in one customer’s file may not satisfy a different retailer or market.

Calculate the pilot’s contribution honestly

Start with net selling revenue, then deduct attributable landed goods cost, local distribution, commissions, returns and trial support. Treat one-time launch costs separately so a small test does not distort the recurring economics. Account for unsold inventory rather than counting shipped quantity as consumer demand.

Use a review date and a stop rule

Before launch, set the observation period, sample feedback requirements, acceptable service problems and the evidence needed for the next order. Review actual usage and paid reorders. Expand only the formats that pass; adjust failed fit or documentation gaps before ordering again.

Store customer and operator observations with the sample and lot identities. These records create evidence for your own market decision without pretending that a pilot proves a whole region’s growth potential.
