When replacing PE with PVC cling film, or PVC with PE, qualify the change as a new product approval. Similar dimensions and a lower quote do not establish equivalent use conditions, dispenser performance or customer instructions. Keep the current approved film as the reference and record what the replacement must achieve.

This guide is for buyers making a material change on an existing application. It addresses changeover control rather than declaring one resin universally better.

Write down why the film is changing

Separate the intended benefit from the acceptance criteria. A lower unit price, different appearance or easier supply is a reason to investigate; the replacement still needs to satisfy the required wrapping task and documentary scope.

Record the customer channel, destination, food types, contact duration and temperature conditions. A PE or PVC resin name does not establish permission for freezing, heating, microwave use or direct contact with every food.

Build a comparison around the actual SKU

Changeover item Current reference Replacement evidence needed
Film identity Approved material/formulation and supplier code Exact replacement formulation and product code
Roll and equipment fit Width, length, core and outside diameter Same interface or a separately approved equipment change
Use coverage Accepted food, time and temperature conditions Supporting evidence for the replacement under the required use
Wrapping performance Recorded results with current operators and containers Matched comparative trial and agreed pass criteria
Instructions and packing Approved artwork, cutter and storage instructions Revision review and change notification before shipment

Use the two film reports as identity references

YIYUAN provides a PE report 202502010694 for a 400 mm × 0.013 mm submitted sample and a PVC report SPWT20260828019 for a 350 mm × 0.01 mm submitted sample. Read each full file and its notices. These different widths and gauges do not form a controlled PE-versus-PVC performance comparison.

For a changeover trial, the commercial range offers listed widths of 300, 350, 400 and 450 mm, with custom options. Choose one application-compatible width and agreed gauge for the comparison, then request the relevant product evidence. The catalog film section describes PVC customization; it does not broaden either submitted-sample report to every custom formulation or gauge.

Run a matched operational trial

  1. Select representative rolls and record supplier, formulation, lot and sample status.
  2. Use the same containers, fill level, surface condition, dispenser and task sequence for both films.
  3. Have more than one trained operator run repeated tasks. Alternate the order of the products to reduce learning and fatigue effects.
  4. Record successful covers, restarts, tears, edge lifting and film used per acceptable cover. Keep the observations separate from subjective preference.
  5. Investigate failures before changing several variables. Repeat the relevant trial after an agreed adjustment.

Judge cling, clarity and handling from the samples and documented application. Formulation, gauge, equipment settings and surface moisture can matter; broad material rankings can conceal these differences.

Review evidence and claims independently of performance

A successful kitchen trial does not establish migration compliance or food shelf life. Review the product-specific technical file before releasing the change. For the EU framework, consult the European Commission food-contact legislation guide and the applicable current measures.

Review the replacement product’s evidence independently. Keep the appropriate PE or PVC file linked to its own sample identity, and resolve any difference between that identity and the ordered formulation or gauge.

Compare cost per accepted task

Measure usable film length and the number of acceptable covers during the controlled trial. Compare material consumed per successful task, roll changes and documented handling losses. Keep labor assumptions explicit. A cheaper roll can be more expensive in use if operators repeatedly restart covers.

Release the change in a controlled quantity

Approve the material, supplier, specification, evidence and instructions together. Begin with a quantity appropriate to your risk and sample results. Retain samples from the first shipment and compare them with the trial reference. Notify affected customers or outlets before substitution where their approval is required.

Prepare the next supplier discussion

Read the PE vs PVC material-selection guide for context, then apply this changeover procedure. Send the current film specification and the matched changeover-trial conditions to YIYUAN to discuss PE/PVC samples and applicable documentation.
